Hiatal Hernia

what-is-a-hiatal-herniaHiatal hernias are most common in people who are over the age 50, those born with an unusually large hiatus, and from pressure on your stomach resulting from injury, lifting, coughing, vomiting, straining or obesity.

Possible signs and symptoms are:

  •     Belching
  •     Chest or abdominal pain
  •     Difficulty swallowing
  •     Feeling especially full after meals
  •     Heartburn
  •     Vomiting blood or passing black stools

Self-care measures or medications can usually relieve these symptoms, although a very large hiatal hernia sometimes requires surgery.
